A Few Good Men…

I had no idea that this site was misconfigured – and therefore, unfindable by Google – until Joshua Bell gave me the head’s up. I didn’t know this, because – instead of getting a “404 Not Found” error, I got the webpage instead!

This meant that, if you knew the URL of the site, you could see it, but if you didn’t have the URL, the webpage simply didn’t exist. This is an ‘invisible to humans’ error.

UNIX and Mac guys could have discovered this by using

curl -I http://stellarreaches.nwgamers.org/ (Horray for command-line computing!)

For those like me who live in the Windows world, Joshua recommends

http://validator.w3.org/

to see what can’t be seen.

We are extremely grateful for Joshua’s decision to take the initiative and contact us. We can’t fix a problem unless we know there’s a problem, and Joshua was the key to opening our eyes. *salute*

Greg Nokes swung into action, and got the site back online quickly, bringing Stellar Reaches back in-phase with the rest of the universe. We owe him a debt of gratitude! *salute*

Flynn, the founder of Stellar Reaches, came back from retirement to reload some of our needed backups (which was missing due to a separate site issue). It was the assist we needed to have everything up to spec! The Old Master gives us a hand one more time… *salute*

With the Right Men, you can fix crippling problems you didn’t even know you had!
