1) Updates on old issues 2) Work on the new Issue 3) Endless Space

Just a few quick updates first:

  • Updates for Issues 13-17 have been published. These should be the last corrections for a while…
  • …as I have shifted from Windows to Mac. I am playing with the Page program, trying to get it to do what I want it to do for the new issue.
  • I still have the August 2012 due date in mind, and I think that I will be able to make it.

Now, to the meat of the post:
I have discovered the new Endless Space game from Steam. Not as good as the old Space! program, but it has its pleasures. What is most amusing to me is the description of the United Empire faction. It’s warships are suggestive of the Imperium of Man of Warhammer 40,000 fame, and the uniforms also follow the W40K style. But the colour pallet – lots of red and gold – reminds me of Avatar’s Fire Nation, and it’s internal description – loose feudal rule, and lots of corporate/noble relationships – strikes me as inspired by the Third Imperium.

The clincher for me is the symbol of the United Empire, seen here. Not an Imperial Starburst, but three pillars topped by a ‘T’ form the symbol of this empire. A.K.A. 3T, or the Third Imperium. If intended, it’s quite clever, and would make a good insignia for an alternate Third Imperium in a different timeline.
