1) Wondrous medical technology 2) A shining future

Please forgive me for getting excited over year-old medical news, but only today was I told of a method to use a neutralized form of the HIV virus to slaughter cancer cells, especially leukaemia. Of three patients tested in clinical trials, two were in complete remission, and a third had over 70% of the cancer cells removed.

And this in 2011!

Now, I’m confident that our idiotic central bankers and senior financiers – strongly assist by the delusional One Europe powerlusters and utterly corrupt Chinese party drones – are going to inflict a crushing depression on the planet by 2020.

But massive depressions and world wars never stopped scientific progress before: only a failure in literacy can do that. And – thanks to SMS and the internet – that’s less likely than ever before.

The truly ugly depression will eventually end, and I can’t imagine the level of achievement that awaits on the other side.

That leaves two serious issues: cultural degradation (which will likely end with the death of the welfare state) and energy. Fortunately, the energy bit is on it’s way to resolution, due to natural gas and improved solar technology: even nuclear fission can be dusted off, if we care to do so.

(I’m still crossing my fingers for cold fusion though.)
