Clear, Simple and Wrong

For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. — H. L. Mencken

First off, Traveller is at its heart a war-game: and it’s natural that war gamers feel that there should be clear, simple answers: something along the lines of “more Dakka” or “more explosives”.

Well, we all know that it ain’t necessarily so… but even within the framework of the violent resolution, you need to actually see what’s in front of your nose. I haven’t been in the military, so I can’t ask the right questions when it comes to squad-level tactics: but these guys have. A good site to learn from, for the sci-fi military writer.

(Actually, I’d prefer a good paintball game rather than pushing small models on a map, but so far no-one has written a set of paintball or LARP rules that factors in Traveller technology.)
