I’d just like to reiterate Arthur’s first key requirements for survival in space:
- The needed knowledge, the lack of which tends to kill people in the short run;
- The will to survive, which tends to run out when faced with long-term stress.
“Never Give Up, Never Surrender”. It’s just as critical for the Traveller mind as “Front Towards Enemy” and “Always Get Paid.”
(I couldn’t find a powerful yet pithy maintenance quote, to my regret. In space, you really, really need to keep your ship systems humming nicely – and a meaty proverb could help in this…)
